Mobile Adoption Counselors
Find lifelong, loving homes for shelter animals by interviewing, evaluating, and matching prospective adopters with the right animal for their family. These adoptions take place every Sunday at PETCO in Auburn, Rocklin & Roseville.

Skills and equipment needed: Good organizational and verbal communication skills. Strong public relations skills. E-mail capabilities. Vehicle to transport animals from Auburn to Rocklin would be very helpful.

Time commitment: 7-28 hours per month

Foster Care
Provide shelter for sick, injured or very young animals in your home.

Skills and equipment needed: None. Food, supplies and medical care are paid for and provided by Friends.

Time commitment: varies (depending on individual animal but can range from a few days to three months)

Foster Care Program Coordinator
You will coordinate the Friends foster parent program designed to help kittens with minor medical problems, or are too young to be adopted. With a team of over 60 foster homes, you will be responsible for assigning specific animals to foster participants and monitoring their progress until they are ready for adoption. The ability to respond quickly, to both the needs of the shelter and the foster parent, as well as care for some animals at your own home will make this program successful. This position is not for the faint of heart.

Skills and equipment needed: Excellent organizational skills. Ability to think critically when evaluating the need for veterinary care is desirable. Transportation.

Time commitment: May-October ~4 hours daily // October-April ~3 hours weekly

Cat House Adoption Facility
This unique facility needs assistance with the care of 60-100 domestic felines. Each of the 16 "Apartments" require food, water, litter maintenance, sweeping as well as interacting with the cats.

Skills and equipment needed: Ability to bend and kneel. A fondness for cats.

Time commitment: 4-5 hours per week.

Cat Trappers & Transporters
Volunteers will be assigned to an area with a feral cat population. They will be responsible for setting, checking and participate in coordinating transportation to the Auburn spay clinic and lastly assist with monitoring recovery and release of feral cats (known as unsocial wild domestic cats)back into their area.

Skills and equipment needed: Ability to bend, kneel and lift about 15-20#. Volunteers with trucks or vans are a plus. Training will be provided.

Time commitment: varies

Phone Support
Monitor phone message system. Return calls and distribute information to appropriate personnel within the organization.

Skills and equipment needed: Phone and e-mail capability.

Time commitment: 1-2 hours daily.

Adoption Follow-up Calls
This important service helps identify potential problems with animals recently adopted--before they become critical. You will rely heavily on referring pet owners to available resources or to others within the organization for follow-up.

Skills and equipment needed: Good phone etiquette and customer service skills. Strong knowledge of animal behavior not necessary but a plus. Phone and e-mail capability.

Time commitment: 6+ hours per month

Education Outreach
Provide extensive education regarding animal issues (spay/neuter, local county ordinances, general pet care and behavior issues) to the public.

Skills and equipment needed: Exceptional communication skills with an emphasis on instruction. Good organizational and presentation skills. Transportation.

Time commitment: 8 hours per month

Special Events
Help with fundraisers and tabling at local festivals and events.

Skills and equipment needed: Good customer service skills.

Time commitment: 5-9 hours per event.

Reaching Out
Solicit and collect pet food, toys and supplies for our shelter and foster homes from local merchants.

Student Volunteers
Students 14 years of age and older may earn Community Service Credits while volunteering with us. A variety of assignments are available at the Cat House Adoption Facility and at our Mobile Adoption faire in addition to helping with special event preparation, office work, and cleaning animal habitats.

Web Support
On a continuous basis, update our website with photographs of new adoption arrivals. Create individual animal biographies with photos for in shelter identification cards.

Skills and equipment needed: Ability to operate a digital camera, software and lots of patience. Volunteer must have access to the internet.

Time commitment: 8 hours per month
