Thanks to Local Veterinarians
Spay Day USA Declared a Success at Placer County Animal Shelter
Spay Day USA was celebrated at the Placer County Animal Shelter during the week of February 22nd. The week long nationwide event initiated by the Doris Day Animal League encourages every person to take responsibility for having one dog or cat sterilized. Rosemary Frieborn president of Friends of Auburn-Placer County Animal Shelter enlisted the assistance of local veterinarians to donate a free surgery for every animal adopted from the Auburn shelter during the week. In addition, people were encouraged to send a post card to the shelter and enter a drawing for a free surgery.
"Everyone was a winner - people and animals alike." All unaltered animals adopted were given a free surgery certificate. Free surgeries were awarded to four winners in the drawing and thanks to AAARF everyone that sent a postcard received a gift certificate for $25.00 off the cost of a surgery at a veterinarian of their choice. Veterinarian response was overwhelming and further demonstrates the importance these professionals place on spaying and neutering companion animals and reducing pet overpopulation and euthanasia rate.
Both the Friends group and Placer County Animal Control would like to extend our thanks to:

After an article appeared in the Auburn
Journal by Elizabeth Sorensen about the dogs at the shelter being washed with
cold water at a hose bib, we received a generous contribution of $250 from an
anonymous donor to build a dog washing station.? Additional funding and
construction workers were provided by the county.
We unceremoniously christened the unit
two weeks ago and it hasn?t been shut off since.? It will be a great asset as
we approach flea season and animals come into the shelter? with external parasites.
The second phase of this project will
be to convert the building in the background into a grooming room so we can
continue to bath during the winter months.? Approximately $500 is needed for
a grooming table and professional grooming dryer.? The building is used after
normal business hours for people to bring stray animals to the shelter,?
therefore, it already has kennels installed for us to put bathed dogs in to
be dried.
Thanks to Elizabeth who got people
motivated, to the county for bringing it together and to? our mystery person
for your kindness and generosity.
