Barks & Meows

Flash Back

We started the year with a successful book & yard sale hosted by Lynn Willingham. The proceeds have enabled us to off-set expenses on our foster program and medical supplies for shelter animals.

On May 5, 6 & 7 we participated in PETsMART and North Shore Animal League?s nationwide Pet Adoptathon. Volunteers set-up at PETsMART in Roseville and by 11AM Saturday, they had adopted all the dogs & puppies transported for adoption.

Meanwhile volunteers at the Auburn shelter weren?t experiencing the same situation. Through driving rains, animals were loaded at the shelter and transported to PETsMART. At the end of the weekend, 26 pets found new homes.

June 4th was a blast with Doggie Derby. People strolled with their pets dressed in costume, strolled amid the mature trees at Auburn Recreation Park, bobbed for hot dogs, participated in the 25 yard dash, watched agility dogs in action, ate ice cream, enjoyed a Bar-B-Q lunch and much more.

Katie and Dave Aguirre brought all the elements of Doggie Derby together for us ? a monumental task and just another way of saying we believe pets are important.

Every Sunday you can find us at Petco in Roseville looking for suitable homes for shelter animals. When opening the shelter on Sunday proved to difficult a task - given the required computer training - we took to the street. These mobile adoptions allow us to showcase animals one additional day a week. Thanks to Petco for this great opportunity. To help us transport more animals safely, we have applied for a grant to purchase a vehicle.

Every Saturday we have cat adoptions at The Cathouse. Run entirely by volunteers, this facility on loan from the county, houses adult cats (about 35 ? give or take) within 13 pens approximately 12? x 12?. These cats were scheduled for euthanasia at the shelter because of space and/or upper respiratory illness. Loving volunteers provide supportive care to the animals during their illness and maintain the facility in immaculate condition 365 days a year. When any are adopted the vacancy is quickly filled with another cat from the shelter. Stop by and visit 11556 D Avenue ? Auburn

Our next weekend adoption faire is at Cal Expo October 27-29. We?ll start preparing just as soon as we finish celebrating the 6% euthanasia reduction!!!!
